The Return of the Walnut Street Bridge

Brilliant spring weather heralded the reopening of Chattanooga's much missed pedestrian bridge Friday and today's second crossing gave me this colorful subject. Be sure to save the date of May 16th for the bicycle fashion show Collective Commute.

A mutual friend introduced me to Skyler Metheny, whose senior project took a critical look at how body images have evolved in fifty years of fashion. We agreed that street style blogging offered a refreshing and positive counterpoint to underfed runway models. Along with her paper she presented these looks, many of them from Collective Clothing and one from LEO. Here are some highlights from the show.

City Councilor Andrae McGary is a man of many parts. A regular reader of The Sartorialist, he displays a great sense of personal style. It was my pleasure to meet him today at the Chattanooga Community Kitchen, where we attended a second performance of Sisters Speak Out.

Spring Season

IMG_9176

The warmer season is full upon us and it shows in the frequency of postings. He told me that today might be a last opportunity to wear this camel jacket. Old school Wallabees and vintage Ray Bans, the kind with ear clips, round out this classic look assembled in part from thrift scores. While winter's chill certainly reduced foot traffic around town, the closing of the Walnut Street pedestrian bridge has affected Frazier Avenue merchants and this blog alike. A check of last January, February and March revealed ten encounters on that structure, not to mention all the crossings that allowed me to find stylish folk on both sides of the Tennessee River. Repairs to the decking appear to be complete. Let's hope it reopens soon.
